A team of Ukrainian and American researchers have presented a report that demonstrates that Russia continues to successfully extract weapons components despite sanctions. This is stated in a joint study by the Kyiv Institute of Economics and the Yermak-McFaul International Sanctions Group.
The study reported that nearly half of Russia’s imports in the first ten months of 2023 consisted of goods produced by Western companies and shipped through third countries, mainly China, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. In addition, Russia is now actively producing drones and aircraft.
“The analysis shows that although export controls have had some impact on trade flows, Russia continues to import large volumes of goods needed for military production”,- the study says.
According to information from the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption of Ukraine, 72% of the identified components of Russian weapons were manufactured by the United States, 6% by Switzerland, 5% by Japan, 4% by China, from 1 to 3% by Germany, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Taiwan, and so on.
