In Crimea, 60 deaths were recorded during the occupation period – CTRC

December 26, 2023

Since the occupation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, disappearances, kidnappings and murders have become a regular practice. According to the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, 60 deaths were recorded during the occupation of Crimea, 28 of which were the representatives of the Crimean Tatar people.

This category is divided into:

Victims of political repressions (4, 3 – Crimean Tatars);

Victims of discrimination (13, 11 – Crimean Tatars);

Victims of terror (30, 8 – Crimean Tatars);

Victims of police abuse (13, 6 – Crimean Tatars).

Unfortunately, the de facto Kremlin-controlled Crimean authorities create only the image of investigating these cases, despite the fact that, in accordance with UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/71/205, Russia is named an occupying state and is entrusted with responsibility for observing human rights in this area/ territories.

CTRC employees and experts have repeatedly informed the international community about these flagrant facts of human rights violations at the international platforms of the UN, OSCE, and PACE.

We condemn the arrests, detentions, kidnappings and murders of people that are used in Crimea as a way of pressure and intimidation of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people and pro-Ukrainian activists.
