Since 2014, the beginning of the temporary occupation of Crimea, the homeland of indigenous peoples – Crimean Tatars, Karaites and Krymchaks – the peninsula has actually turned into a territory of lawlessness.
Unfortunately, since the beginning of the occupation of Crimea and Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, not only people, but also all living creatures in the territory where the hostilities are taking place have suffered enormous damage. Rocket attacks, explosions and shelling also damage the environment.
Military hostilities accelerate climate change many times over. As a result of explosions and heavy military equipment emitting greenhouse gases in Crimea and other parts of Ukraine, global temperatures are rising, and people are being affected by smog and acid rain.
Russia has in fact turned Crimea into a weaponized base that poses a military threat not only in the Black Sea region, but throughout Europe.
You can learn more about the impact of Russian aggression on the environment of Crimea and the consequences we will have to face in the future in the video prepared by the team of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center.
