The number of requests for help for desertion from the Russian army has increased by 89% compared to the summer period. The Moscow Times reports this.
It is known that the Russian military is increasingly turning to the organization “Go by the forest”, which helps Russian soldiers desert.
Over the three autumn months, 577 requests were received compared to 305 in June–August. Since April 2023, the organization’s lawyers and volunteers have advised more than a thousand military personnel who wanted to desert.
According to Grigory Sverdlin, head of the “Go by the forest” project, most military personnel decide to desert after they are wounded and hospitalized. One of the deserters told the publication that he decided to flee the army after being seriously wounded for the second time.
