The SSU has launched criminal proceedings regarding the statements and publications of former MP Iryna Farion.
The investigation reports that Farion repeatedly noted in her interviews that she categorically does not accept Russian-speaking military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and cannot call them Ukrainians. Also on her social networks, the person involved published a message with a screenshot of a message from a pro-Ukrainian student from temporarily occupied Crimea, which indicated the sender’s name, surname and other personal data. It is believed that this became the basis for his persecution and subsequent detention by the Russian special services.
Criminal proceedings on these facts have been opened under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Art. 161 (Violation of the equality of citizens depending on their race, nationality, regional origin, religious beliefs, disability and other grounds), Art. 435-1 (Insulting the honor and dignity of a serviceman, threats to a serviceman), Art. 163 (Violation of the confidentiality of correspondence, telephone conversations, telegraphic or other correspondence transmitted by means of communication or via a computer) and Art. 182 (Violation of privacy).
Iryna Farion’s statements led to a psychological and linguistic examination by the SSU.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center wants to emphasize that it is very important to keep secret any correspondence and communications with residents of occupied Crimea, especially if these materials demonstrate a pro-Ukrainian position. We have repeatedly said that the occupiers turned Crimea into a lawless territory with the lowest level of freedom of speech. And unfortunately, any statement against the Russian government is brutally punished by the occupiers.
