Defendants in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case will remain in custody

November 2, 2023

The Supreme Court of Crimea left the defendants in the fifth Bakhchisarai case of Hizb ut-Tahrir in custody.

Edem Semedliaiev noted that his client Ametkhan Umerov was not brought to court, as were two other defendants in the case. The court refused to postpone the hearing for a day, since all three political prisoners were undergoing forced examination. Despite the fact that the deadlines for consideration of the appeal for the extension of the preventive measure would not have been violated.

Relatives of the accused were not allowed to attend the hearing.

Let us recall that on August 24, the Kyiv district court of occupied Crimea placed three Crimean Tatars – Ruslan Asanov, Ametkhan Umerov and Remzi Nimetulaiev – in a pre-trial detention center for two months.

It is known that Remzi Nimetulaiev and Ruslan Asanov were charged under the first part of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and Ametkhan Umerov – under the second part. The activists do not admit guilt
