A former Ukrainian law enforcement officer from Crimea was convicted of defecting to the Russian side in 2014. This was reported by the Court Reporter with reference to the verdict of the Podil District Court of Kyiv.
The defendant’s name is Yurii Yarchenko. It is known that he served as a platoon policeman at the police department for the protection of the Artek Medical Center under the Yalta city administration of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
“The basis for the initiation of criminal proceedings was the report of the SSU detective, who examined the man’s personal page on the Vkontakte network, where photos were posted in the uniform of a police officer of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, with his family, at an exercise, there is an image of a diploma and a video recording of anti-Ukrainian content, etc”,– the message says.
There are no public comments from the convicted person or his defense in this case.
