October 22, 2023

On Thursday, October 19, members of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people held a meeting with the new Ambassador of Turkey Mustafa Bilgen.

The meeting was attended by the leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev and members of Mejlis, in particular the Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center Eskender Bariiev.

During the meeting, ways of cooperation were discussed, as well as steps that will be taken for a reliable and secure future.

Mr. Mustafa Bilgen noted that in relations between Turkey and Ukraine, the Crimean Tatars play the role of a bridge.

“It was so in the past, and it will be so in the future. We understand each other very well and get to know each other better, together discussing positions related to the region. Therefore, our unity is important in these relations. God willing, together we will bring all our plans to life”,- he said.

At a meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Turkish Republic to Ukraine, Eskender Bariiev first of all informed about the process of consolidating the legal status of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the implementation of the law of Ukraine on the indigenous peoples of Ukraine, and also that today a law on decolonization and Work is actively underway aimed at decolonizing the toponyms of Crimea.

“This is more important than the message of the Ukrainian state’s attitude towards its indigenous people, and this is an important message for the Turkish Republic that the Ukrainian state takes care of its indigenous people”,- he emphasized.
