Hearings start in the Hague on Ukraine’s genocide claim against Russia

September 18, 2023

On Monday, September 18, the International Court of Justice in The Hague begins hearings in the case of Ukraine against Russia on charges of violating the Convention on the Prohibition of Genocide.

According to the court’s website, the hearings will last until September 27. Representatives of the Russian Federation will perform on September 18 and 25, and representatives of Ukraine on September 19 and 27.

Ukraine is represented by a delegation led by Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Anton Korynevych. Russia – a person with a similar position, Gennady Kuzmin.

We remind you that Ukraine filed this lawsuit on February 26, 2022, and later 33 more countries became plaintiffs.

The Russian government has been trying to destroy Ukraine and its people for years:

— Holodomor 1921-1923, 1932-1933, 1946-1947

— Deportation of the Crimean Tatar people in 1944

— Occupation of Crimea and Donbass in 2014

— Full-scale war in Ukraine 2022

Unfortunately, the world did not promptly condemn the terrible crimes of the Soviet Union, in particular the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people. And impunity gave rise to a new tragedy. Now the Russian Federation is committing genocide against the entire Ukrainian people.

We have to stop this!
