The wives of Nariman Dzhelyalov and the Akhtemov brothers are not allowed into the pre-trial detention center

August 10, 2023

Leviza Dzhelyalova, Repika and Adile Akhtemov were no longer allowed into the pre-trial detention center with men. This was reported by the Crimean Solidarity public association.

Leviza Dzhelyalova noted that the defense and the accused are going to send a cassation complaint, which means that the trial is not over and they can visit their husbands as their defenders.

“This is very funny, almost a joke. When we came to the men, the special department wrote out requirements for us, gave us passes so that we could enter the pre-trial detention center. The front desk knows us well. They know there’s been an appeal. We stayed for about an hour. Then the duty officer comes out to us with a woman and says: “We won’t let you through. Now they called from the special department and said that you should not be let through. Although we had all the necessary documents, and the duties of the duty officers do not include deciding who to let in and who not, they still didn’t let us in”,- said Dzhelyalova.

She claims that they returned to the administrative building, entered the special department, but they were never shown a document according to which they cannot enter.

“The girls in the chancery communicate very closely with the employees of the Supreme Court. We suspect that they were quickly, through a messenger, sent a bad, crooked photocopy of the decision of the court of first instance, and without a reasoning part, they were quickly assured with wet seals, and on the basis of this document they did not let us in. But they never showed it to us… They all understand that this is an unofficial document, they have no arguments, but there is a directive – not to let it in”,- added Dzhelyalova.

We remind you that Nariman Dzhelyalov was found guilty of committing a crime under paragraph a, b part 2 of Art. 281 (commission of sabotage by an organized group, which caused significant property damage), Part 4 of Art. 222.1 (illegal acquisition, storage and transportation of explosive devices committed by an organized group), Part 3 of Art. 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal transportation of an explosive device across the customs border of the Customs Union within the framework of the EurAsEC, committed by an organized group) and sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 17 years, a fine of 700 thousand rubles and restriction of freedom for 1.5 years.

On September 3-4, in the occupied Crimea, the houses of the Crimean Tatars Eldar Odamanov, Aziz Akhtemov, Shevket Useinov, Asan Akhtemov and Nariman Dzhelyalov were searched. The security forces confiscated the equipment and took the men with them. Later it became known that Nariman Dzhelyalov and cousins Aziz and Asan Akhtemov are suspected of complicity in sabotage. The invaders claim that they are involved in the damage to the gas pipeline in the village of Perevalne, Simferopol region of Crimea. On September 6, the Russian court in the occupied Crimea arrested the First Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Nariman Dzhelyalov, as well as the brothers Aziz and Asan Akhtemov.

On July 28, 2023, the Third Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction in Sochi toughened the sentence: now Nariman Dzhelyalov, Asan and Aziz Akhtemov must serve their first three years in prison.
