The podcast This is about us: the cultural mosaic of the peoples of the south was launched on Public Radio, which reveals the diversity of the Ukrainian Crimea, the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.
“We will listen to music, imagine tastes and colors, learn more about interesting traditions. Because it’s all about us. This is a work that not only tells about the culture of the peoples of the south, but also debunks the stereotypes that are spread in particular by the aggressor country – Russia. Stereotypes about who we are. This is a research and educational podcast about the preservation of cultures that are part of the Ukrainian historical heritage. And this is important, because it is not only about preserving, but also about developing, modernizing the art of indigenous peoples, as well as about the right historical accents”,- says the author of the podcast, Victoriia Yermolaeiva.
Over 10 episodes, most of the cultures of the Ukrainian south will be revealed: their literature, cuisine, art and traditions. The first episode is dedicated to the Crimean Tatars – a historian of Crimean Tatar origin, journalist Hulnara Abdulaieva talks about them.
“The stereotype regarding the Crimean Tatars was imposed for many years by our neighbor Muscovy. For years, Muscovites have been saying that the Crimean Tatars came to the peninsula in the 13th century, they are descendants of the Horde. Actually this is not true. Because the Crimean Tatars have been formed on the Crimean peninsula for thousands of years. It is a great melting pot for many nations. They were autochthons, they came to the Crimean peninsula at different times”,- she says.
Animated videos will also be released as part of the project. The illustration was created by Kateryna Yurkova.
