Ukrainians will be able to apply to the Civil Registry Office with documents issued in the occupied territories

July 20, 2023

The facts of birth, death, conclusion or dissolution of marriage that occurred in the temporarily occupied territories (TOT) can be registered without going to court. The Ministry for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine reports this on its Facebook page.

Thanks to this procedure, the risk of the lack of Ukrainian citizenship among the residents of the TOT will decrease. It should be recalled that during the occupation more than 300 thousand children were born who will need to obtain Ukrainian birth certificates.

“This bill is primarily aimed at protecting human rights. It is one of the tools for the reintegration of residents of the temporarily occupied territories. Such citizens should feel the protection of the Ukrainian state”,- said Vice Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk.

Representatives of the executive and judicial authorities, public and human rights organizations supported the need to adopt this initiative.
