The square of Labor Glory was renamed the square named after Pavlo Horianskyy

July 14, 2023

In Kyiv, 14 city objects were renamed, the names of which are associated with Russia.

In particular, the square of Labor Glory was renamed the square named after Pavlo Horianskyy.

Recall that Pavlo Horianskyy was a teacher, public and cultural figure. He was the founder and chairman of the Yalta Community of Ukrainians, as well as the chairman of the Small Council of Ukrainians of Crimea.

The Crimean Tatar Resource Center supports this initiative and calls for attention to the de-Russification of Ukrainian cities/villages, including those in Crimea. To this end, the CTRC and the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people launched an information and advocacy campaign in January 2023 – Return the names – return Crimea.

As part of this campaign, we tell when and why toponyms were renamed in Crimea, why it is important for indigenous peoples, Ukraine and the international community to restore historical names in Crimea, and whether Ukraine can start acting in this direction now.
