Eskender Bariiev, the Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, told the Suspilne Crimea TV channel, about the process of consolidating the status of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People as a representative body of the indigenous people.
According to him, the group of documents is submitted in accordance with the procedure for establishing the legal status of the representative body of the indigenous people of Ukraine and the Law on Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine.
“Firstly, we submitted a notification, then we submitted the documents within the appropriate timeframe and within 5 working days. If there were any comments, they would have been submitted to the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience. They did not provide us with them, which means that legally we are doing well, so we are now waiting for the procedural processes. In particular, the SEFC must develop a draft decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and this draft order must go through all the necessary approvals. Then, the process of consolidating the status of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people as a representative body of the indigenous people will take place. I think everything will be known soon. And we, for our part, are ready to help the state institutions to bring this matter to an end as soon as possible,” he said.
