After the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP, water problems have arisen in Crimea. Eskender Bariiev, the Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, spoke in an interview with Ukrinform.
“The occupiers appealed to the citizens to stock up on drinking water and started supplying water on schedule. Water supply was limited in Simferopol, Kerch, Feodosiia, Dzhankoi. These cities received water from the North Crimean Canal. Water supply is also restricted in small towns and villages. Yevpatoriia also has water problems,” Barieev said.
Currently, the invaders explain the water problems by ‘repair works’.
“But there has been a lot of rainfall in Crimea in recent months. In addition, people see that after the Kakhovka HPP explosion, the water quality has become worse, and the pressure has dropped,” Bariiev added.
He is aware that the water level in the North Crimean Canal is currently dropping by 15-20 cm every hour. According to him, this indicates that there will be no water in the canal in the near future.
