Russians are fleeing Crimea – Bariiev

March 31, 2023

Eskender Bariiev, the Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Centre, the Head of the Department for Legal and Foreign Affairs of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, told how Russians are fleeing Crimes in an interview with the publication Apostrophe.

“There are facts that confirm the Russians’ fleeing. Firstly, they have an Avito website, like the Ukrainian OLX, where they have started selling a lot of household appliances that they bought 2-3 years ago. In addition, we started to receive information that many collaborators – not Russians, but collaborators – started buying property in third countries. For example, in Turkey. They don’t have Ukrainian passports, for instance, so they can’t travel to other countries. Therefore, they are trying to come to Turkey with Russian passports and buy property there. Indeed, there are now Russian districts in Turkey. They also don’t like something there, and they start saying that mosques shouldn’t work,” he said.

According to Bariiev, the construction business on the peninsula has stopped. There is information that those specialists who were booked six months to a year in advance are now unemployed. This is not because there is a lack of construction materials, but because they are afraid to carry out construction work because they are waiting for the Ukraine’s armed forces.
