May 29, 2023

On Thursday, May 25, a meeting was held at the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting to develop criteria for phobia (hostility, hatred) against the Crimean Tatar people in the media.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of the public sector, government institutions and experts. In particular, the communications manager of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center Tetiana Podvorniak joined the discussion.

“It is very important to debunk the myths and stereotypes about the Crimean Tatar people. In particular, most stereotypes stem from the fact that people simply do not know who indigenous peoples are and why Ukraine should pay special attention to them. The Ukrainian media should be involved in such outreach to Ukrainian society in order to overcome any enmity”,- emphasized Podvorniak.

The result of this meeting will be prepared criteria for classifying information as one that incites hostility towards the Crimean Tatar people.
