Today, May 18, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Remembrance of the victims of the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people.
79 years ago, on May 18, 1944, by the decision of the leadership of the USSR, the Crimean Tatar people were subjected to forcible and total deportation from their historical homeland – Crimea, and exiled to remote regions of the Soviet Union. According to official figures, 238,500 Crimean Tatars were deported.
Unfortunately, the entire indigenous Crimean Tatar people are still subjected to terrible repressions by the occupier in Crimea because of their active pro-Ukrainian position.
We urge Ukrainians on this day to share photos with the Crimean Tatar flag as a sign of memory of the 1944 genocide that the Crimean Tatars experienced and solidarity with the indigenous people of Crimea. To do this, the CTRC has developed a mask in stories on Instagram and Facebook, which you can use at the link.
Share your photos on social networks with the hashtag #we_are in solidarity.
Honor the memory of the victims of deportation! Show your solidarity with the Crimean Tatar people! Put the flag of the Crimean Tatars on the vyshyvanka!
P.S. We express our gratitude to everyone who has already joined our flash mob!
The #we_are in solidarity flash mob is a part of the #LIBERATECRIMEA campaign.
The #LIBERATECRIMEA campaign was presented by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center as part of its project implemented under the USAID/ENGAGE activity, which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Pact. The contents of this campaign are the sole responsibility of Pact and its implementing partners and do not necessary reflect the views of USAID or the United States Government.
Bariiev also said that it is important that our compatriots live in Crimea, because when Ukraine returns, it will be necessary to restore Ukrainian Crimea with the protection of the rights of indigenous peoples.
