May 18, 2023

Yevgenia Kravchuk, a member of the Crimean Platform inter-factional association, published a statement on the 79th anniversary of the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people.

Full text of the statement

In May 1944, the communist authorities of the former Soviet Union committed a crime, equal to which in scale and barbarous cruelty, until recently, it was even difficult to imagine – from Crimea, from the place of original residence, from their own homes, an entire people was expelled – the Crimean Tatars.

Each new page of the mournful book of inhuman cynicism and cruelty shown by Russia in 2022, which opens in Bucha, Irpin, Izium and other cities, towns and villages liberated from occupation, every dead civilian, thousands of Ukrainian children abducted and forcibly taken out of Ukraine and many other atrocities of the Russians allow us today to feel the full horror of the genocide that survived the Crimean Tatar people.

Today’s events became possible because the evil was not punished: the world did not condemn the communist regime and the Kremlin’s rule.

Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars are now united in an effort to liberate our common homeland – Ukraine, Crimea – from occupation, to punish the evil of rashism! Crimean Tatars have been the indigenous people of Crimea from time immemorial, so protecting their rights and returning to their homeland is an extremely urgent issue.

On the day of the next anniversary of the forced deportation of the Crimean Tatars, members of the Inter-Factional Association Crimean Platform bow their heads in memory of all the innocent victims of the Soviet genocide of the Crimeans.

We call on the world to constantly remember the crimes of the Stalinist and Putin regimes, which have common roots. Never again is not only about the Second World War, but also about Russia repeating the tragedies of the past.
