April 10, 2023

On Monday, April 10, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center at the Ukrinform news agency held a presentation on Fakes about NATO in the occupied Crimea, during which the speakers spoke about the trends in the spread of fake information about NATO in the temporarily occupied Crimea for the first three months of 2023 .

Speakers:

Eskender Bariiev – Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, head of the Department for Legal  and Foreign Affairs of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people;

Serhii Parkhomenko is the manager of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center.

Moderator: Tetiana Podvorniak – Communications Manager of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center.

Until 2014, the Russian Federation effectively cooperated with NATO in various areas. However, after the occupation of Crimea, the Alliance cut off any ties with Russia, because the organization clearly confirms its support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine. As a result, the Russian Federation began to openly call NATO an enemy and accuse it of threats and unfriendly actions”,-Podvorniak said.

The communications manager noted that the Russian Federation is actively spreading fakes about the threat to NATO, in particular, in the temporarily occupied Crimea. In this regard, the CTRC has been continuing the heading NATO in the media of the occupied Crimea for 2 years now. There are already certain results of the campaign, because publications in social networks have reached more than 600 thousand people, among whom a significant part are residents of Crimea.

“In the Crimean media, most of the propaganda is about NATO. rf for many years intimidated the population of the peninsula, identifying the alliance with fascism. Beginning in 2014, the Russian authorities began openly calling NATO an enemy and accusing it of making threats. Since that moment, the Russian Federation has been actively spreading Putin’s propaganda that NATO is entering the borders of the Russian Federation, etc.”,- said Bariiev.

The expert spoke in detail about the main fakes about NATO in the occupied Crimea, and also highlighted the main trends for the first 3 months of 2023:

  1. NATO plans to destroy Russia with the hands of Ukraine
  2. The armed forces of Ukraine are fighting exclusively in the interests of NATO
  3. The Ukrainian people became a victim of NATO policy

“The theme of NATO in the media of the temporarily occupied Crimea, as well as in the media throughout Russia, is one of the key ones. Previously, Russia spread fakes that it was forced to launch a SMO in order to prevent the implementation of NATO plans to turn Ukraine into a territory covered by Alliance bases. Now Russian media, telegram channels, experts say that NATO’s goal is to destroy all of Russia with the hands of Ukraine”,- Serhii Parkhomenko noted.

Parkhomenko stressed that among the media that publish and promote fakes, it should be noted: the Crimean branch of the RIA News publication, Komsomol TruthCrimea 24. Channels in the telegram: Crimea News, Crimean News, Sevastopol. Crimea. News, News of Sevastopol and others.
