Yevhen Khlobystov, a member of the Expert Council of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development of Crimea, explained what the dumping of water from the Kakhovka Reservoir by Russian terrorists could lead to.
The expert noted that this could cause a number of environmental problems in the region.
“The discharge of water from the Kakhovka Reservoir will not lead to a global ecological catastrophe, but coastal hydrobionts will be lost (organisms that live in the water), a possible plague of fish and the destruction of part of the aquatic ecosystems will be lost. This also threatens to reduce the level of water supply for the population of the Kherson region. Irrigation for agriculture will be made impossible”,- the expert noted.
Khlobystov noted that dust storms will form more often as a result of increased aridity of local landscapes in the region.
