The Crimean Tatar Resource Center notes violations of the rights of political prisoners of Crimea in the dungeons of pre-trial detention centers and prisons on the territory of Crimea and on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Recently, there has been an increase in complaints from political prisoners of the Kremlin about the conditions of detention in pre-trial detention centers and prisons: cold in winter and unbearable heat in summer, lack of access to cold or hot tap water, poor lighting, up to 25 people are placed in a cell designated for 7 people, they are taken to bathe once a month and give 15 minutes for this, so political prisoners are forced to wash in their clothes. Often there are complaints about mold and fungus in the chambers, which are the causative agents of many diseases.
Political prisoners live in conditions of lack of access to medicines and medical care. In the medical unit there is no elementary medicine and even a thermometer to measure body temperature. It should be noted that among the political prisoners there are elderly people, disabled people, and those who have serious illnesses. Dental treatment is not provided at all, which is why many political prisoners have already lost several teeth, and elderly political prisoners in Crimea cannot fully chew food due to the absence of many teeth and problems with false teeth and bridges.
In addition, political prisoners receive terrible food. Often it is moldy or expired. Often, the Russian occupiers do not take into account the religious beliefs of the Kremlin captives and give Muslims pork dishes, as a result of which they are forced to starve.
Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to transfer any equipment to the cell, from a TV set to a clipper for political prisoners.
Much can be said about how the illegal transfer of political prisoners in Crimea takes place. Usually a person is placed in a narrow space in the form of a cage in a car, the so-called pencil (60 * 60 cm in size), in which they are transported from the Crimea to the territory of Russia. During the stay on the road, and this is up to 12 hours, they do not make a single stop so that a person can simply go to the toilet.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center notes that these are inhuman conditions of detention and degrading treatment, and the Russian Federation specifically uses these tools to put pressure on political prisoners and intimidate their relatives.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center demands the immediate release of all political prisoners arrested on the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center calls on the international community to increase pressure on the Russian Federation and the occupying authorities of Crimea in order to stop political persecution, as well as to apply personal sanctions against persons involved in human rights violations in the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea.
Recall that according to the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, during the occupation of Crimea, 276 political prisoners and those prosecuted in criminal cases were recorded, 195 of which are representatives of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people.
