Dunja Mijatović was informed about the real situation in the occupied Crimea

On Tuesday, February 14, a working online meeting was held with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović and members of her office.

This meeting was attended by the Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov, the Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, the head of the Department for Legal  and Foreign Affairs of  Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariiev, as well as lawyers and human rights activists.

Ms. Mijatović was informed about the real situation of the Crimean Tatars in the occupied Crimea, about the problems of the Kremlin’s political prisoners who are in the occupied Crimea and outside the peninsula.

The Head of the Board of the CTRC presented the main trends identified by the experts of the CTRC, the dynamics and the number of offenses on the peninsula during the period of the occupation of Crimea, as well as for the period of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine. In addition, Bariev singled out the problem of illegal forced mobilization of Crimean residents into the Russian army to participate in the war against Ukraine.

As a result of the meeting, recommendations were provided for a report on human rights violations, which will be prepared by the office of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights in the future.
