Political prisoner Oleg Prykhodko, previously taken under patronage by MP of Ukraine Yana Zinkevych as part of the campaign of activists of the international movement #LIBERATECRIMEA and the Crimean Tatar Resource Center MP, Help the Prisoners of the Kremlin!, was electrocuted and doused with cold water.
According to activist Yevhen Chepelianskyy, Oleg Prykhodko was electrocuted during transferring, severely tortured, doused with cold water, handcuffed for hours. In addition, he is kept in solitary confinement with raised beds. Once he fell asleep on his haunches and was placed in a punishment cell.
“A person is in a terrible state of health, he is not systematically given medicines, without which he cannot live – they don’t give him anything in return either! Political prisoners are systematically killed! Moreover, there is no support from the state – the consul said that it is unlikely that Oleg will be released, the president does not care about the prisoner at all”,- he said.
Unfortunately, this is not the first and not the last such case. At least the Crimean Tatar Resource Center is aware of 20 such cases.
According to the CTRC, torture was applied to: Raim Ayvazov, Ervin Ibragimov, Renat Paralamov, Vladyslav Yesypenko, Server Rasylchak, Oleksandr Steshenko, Akhtem Mustafaiev, Yevhen Panov, Oleksii Shostakovych, Remzi Bekirov, Osman Arifmemetov, Vladlen Abdulkadyrov, Abdulla Ibrahimov, Nabi Rakhimov, Kurtumer Chalhozov, Nariman Ametov, Nariman Dzhelialov and Asan and Aziz Akhtemov.
The occupiers imitated execution, threatened with death, electrocuted, choked with bags, put bags on their heads, even a case of murder was recorded.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center demands from the Russian Federation in accordance with Art. 4 of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, conduct an effective investigation of all recorded cases of torture.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center calls on the international community to increase pressure on the Russian Federation and the occupying authorities of Crimea in order to stop political persecution, in particular, to apply personal sanctions against those involved in the torture of Crimean political prisoners.
On October 9, 2019, Russian security officials again broke into Oleg Prykhodko’s dwelling and kidnapped him. On October 10, a search was conducted in his dwelling, during which the man was detained. His wife Liubov Prykhodko was also detained. The activist is accused of terrorism and manufacture of explosives. The woman was detained as a witness, but later released. On October 10, the so-called Kyiv District Court arrested Oleg Prykhodko until December 10. Later Prykhodko’s DNA samples were illegally taken. According to lawyer Nazim Sheikhmambetov, this was done for the purpose of falsifying evidence. The political prisoner had his measure of restraint repeatedly extended. On March 3, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don announced the verdict to Oleg Prykhodko. The occupants sentenced him to 5 years of imprisonment in a strict regime colony with the first year in prison.
