Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, Head of the Department of Legal and Foreign Affairs of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Eskender Bariiev, in an interview with the Crimea.Realities commented on the statement of the Russian Federation on the construction of a new city in the occupied Crimea. The expert believes that this is more of a commercial project, which will give a serious infrastructural load for water supply.
“Russians have a demand for housing in Crimea. Therefore, it seems to me, this is more of a commercial project, which will be aimed at selling off the coastal territory – and thus, among other things, additionally populating Crimea with Russian citizens. In the Saky district, large areas remained undeveloped, and this is quite an interesting place for recreational development. Of course, this will become a problem for local residents – as the Sevastopol residents have already faced a problem, who are beginning to resent the fact that they are not allowed to go to the sea as they used to do throughout their lives”,- he said.
Bariiev believes that this city will give a serious infrastructural load for water supply. In fact, it will be a problem not only for the residents of the Saky district, but also for the whole Crimea, especially during summer months.
“This development of the peninsula is contrary to international law and Ukrainian legislation, so this issue should be raised by Kyiv on international platforms and put in the form of claims against Russia”,- he added.
