The latest arrests are directly related to the summit of the Crimean Platform – Bariiev

September 6, 2021

Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, Head of the Department of Legal and Foreign Affairs of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariiev in an interview with Crimea.Realities said that the latest detentions in the occupied Crimea are directly related to the summit of the Crimean Platform.

“What happened on September 3 and 4 was a prearranged operation by the FSB to punish those people who took part in the work of the Crimean Platform. It would seem that they came and presented a resolution under Article 280.2, detained and taken away the detainees, but in this case the FSB realizing that this article is clearly politically motivated and expecting that there may be active reaction from countries and international organizations participating in the Crimean Platform, in my opinion, simulated the allegedly deliberate damage and explosion in a gas pipeline near the village of Perevalne, Simferopol district at the end of August this year. Then they open criminal proceedings under Article 281.1 sabotage and on September 3 they conducted searches and took Eldar Odamanov and Asan Akhtemov in an unknown direction, and on September 4 they conducted searches and took Shevket Useinov, Aziz Akhtemov and Nariman Dzhelyal in an unknown direction”,- Bariiev said.

The expert believes that Nariman Dzhelyal will be taken out of the Crimea to the Russian Federation, and the rest of the detainees will be forced to testify against Nariman Dzhelial. The prosecutor will ask for up to 14-15 years in prison. He thinks that searches and detentions will be carried out in relation to other colleagues in the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people.

“While Ukraine was preparing for the summit, in the Russian Federation during 2020-2021 they actively made changes and additions to the legislation of Russia, including the Criminal Code of Russia. In order to intensify repression on the one hand and prohibit people from even doubting that Crimea is not Russian”,- Bariiev said.

The Head of the Board of the CTRC emphasized that the Russian Federation had prepared to the Crimean Platform by supplementing Article 280 of the Criminal Code of Russia with part two, that is, participation in the violation of the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation, and everyone who participated in such events falls under this article.
