On Monday, August 9, on the International Day of Indigenous Peoples, an online expert discussion was held on the topic: New legislation on the indigenous peoples of Ukraine: international standards and foreign experience. During the event, the world’s leading experts in the field of the rights of indigenous peoples assessed and analyzed the Law of Ukraine On the Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine.

Eskender Bariiev, Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People;
Phoolman Chaudhary, Member of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues;
Oliver Loode, Member of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities (FCNM), Member of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (2014-2016);
Pavel Sulyandziga, Member of the Board of the International Coalition for the Human Rights of Indigenous Peoples;
Tai Pelli, Officer of the United Confederation of Taíno People and Co-founder of the Caribbean Amerindian Development Organization;
Dr. Dali Sambo Doro, Chairman of the Inuit Circumpolar Council, Senior Research Fellow (University of Alaska, Anchorage) and Member of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues;
Dr. Olena Arabadzhi, Head of National Cultural Karaite Society “Jamaat”;

During the event, experts discussed the processes of adopting the Law on Indigenous Peoples in independent Ukraine and the role of participation of the indigenous peoples of Ukraine in the development of relevant international standards. They discussed the reactions of other states to the adoption of this law, as well as the prospects for organizational, personnel and material and financial ways of implementing the new legislation.
