It has been repeatedly said that the Russian Federation is deliberately creating a catastrophic water situation in the occupied Crimea. How does this happen?
First, it is militarization.
The occupants see Crimea as a military base.
The uncontrolled deployment by the Russian Federation on the peninsula of nuclear facilities and materials, weapons systems, including aircraft and missiles – all this can lead to pollution of the sea with radionuclides, rocket fuel, oil products from the activities of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
Regular military exercises on the peninsula, the construction of military bases, and the resettlement of the Russian military to Crimea require the use of additional water resources.
It was the militarization that negatively affected the water balance of Crimea.
In the last six months alone, the occupants held military exercises 20 times on the territory of the occupied peninsula with the participation of more than 23,850 servicemen and more than 1,900 units of military and special equipment.
The Russian Federation bears full responsibility for the crisis situation in the field of Crimean water use. And in no case should Ukraine provide water for the military strengthening of the peninsula.
