The international human rights organization Amnesty International condemned the sentence in absentia to the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov and demanded from the Russian Federation to immediately cancel this decision. “This verdict is the shameful culmination of the unfair and fabricated trial against Refat Chubarov and another attempt by the Russian Federation to suppress the resistance of the Crimean Tatar community against the persecution”,- said Oksana Pokalchuk, director of Amnesty International in Ukraine.
The organization noted that the sentence to Chubarov is another attack on the leaders of the Crimean Tatar community, which illegally silences them. Amnesty International demands to immediately reverse this decision and drop all charges against Chubarov.
