On Tuesday, May 18, on the 77th anniversary of the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people, as part of the official working visit to Ukraine of the Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia, Mrs. Inara Murniece, a ceremony of raising the Crimean Tatar flag was held at the Latvian Embassy in Ukraine.
The event was attended by: Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia Mrs. Inara Murniece, Leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev, Chairman of the Mejlis Refat Chubarov, Head of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, Head of the Department of Legal Affairs and Foreign Affairs of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariiev, government officials, as well as civil society activists.
Eskender Bariiev stressed during the meeting that the Crimean Platform should clearly indicate the subjectivity of the Crimean Tatar people, and the support of the partner countries in this matter is also important.
In addition, the expert said that the Crimean Tatar Resource Center and the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people prepared a list of 300 persons involved in human rights violations in the occupied Crimea, 166 of which have already been verified.
“And since Latvia has a law analogous to the Magnitsky Act, in the near future we are ready to provide a list in accordance with Latvian legislation”,- he added.
