On Tuesday, May 18, the 77th anniversary of the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people, the countries of the Lublin Triangle – Ukraine, Lithuania and Poland – expressed solidarity with the Crimean Tatar people and stressed that they would continue to work to restore Ukraine’s sovereign control over Crimea.
“Unfortunately, seven decades after this terrible crime, our generation has witnessed a repeat of the events of the past. The temporary occupation of Crimea by Russia has led to new repressions against the Crimean Tatar people, who are again facing human rights violations, persecution for their beliefs, religion and opposition to the occupation of Ukrainian Crimea, the ban of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and various other forms of oppression and discrimination”,- the statement said.
The document stressed that the countries will continue to work to restore respect for international law and Ukraine's sovereign control over Crimea.
