Ukrainian political prisoner Valentyn Vyhivsky, who was sentenced to 11 years in a strict regime colony for allegedly spying for the Ukrainian special services, announced his intention to go on a hunger strike due to the unbearable conditions of detention. This was reported by the Ombudswoman of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova via her Facebook page.
“Ukrainian political prisoner Valentyn Vyhivsky intends to go on a hunger strike, because he has lost all hope of returning alive to his homeland. He has been in illegal detention for 7 years and is now being held in PKU IK-11 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Russian Federation for the Kirov Region in inhumane conditions. Constant stay in the cold and in complete isolation led to a deterioration in Valentyn's health”,- the message said.
It is noted that the administration of the penitentiary institution carries out systematic psychological pressure on the man – without any explanation or reason, he is placed in a punishment cell, money from his bank account is withdrawn, which his relatives transfer to him for the purchase of food and hygiene products.
We remind that on December 15, 2015, the Moscow Regional Court sentenced Valentyn Vyhivsky to 11 years in a strict regime colony on charges under Art. 276 (Espionage) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
