Bariiev: Nabi Rakhimov became a victim of the repressive apparatus of Russia on the peninsula”

Head of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, Head of the Department of Legal and Foreign Affairs of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Eskender Bariiev, in an interview with the Crimea.Realities said that Nabi Rakhimov, who was killed by Russian security officials on May 11 during a search, became a victim of the Russian repressive apparatus on the peninsula.

“If he was actually wanted, he probably would have known about this and would not have come out to meet people. Administrative proceedings have now been opened against Rakhimov's wife, and she doesn’t even really know Russian, it’s quite difficult for her to communicate. The types of repressions  that are carried out by the occupants in Crimea, this tendency begins to worry me. Indeed, what happened in Zavitne is very similar to the Caucasian scenarios, when during searches or when the Russian special services come, women are taken out, and men are dealt with as terrorists, without trial or investigation. If we keep silent about this now, I'm afraid the problem may become systemic in the occupied Crimea”,- he said.

Bariiev noted that in this case it is not about countering terrorism, as the Russian security forces are trying to present, but about the fight against dissidents in Crimea.
