Every year on August 9, International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples is celebrated. A special date was approved by a resolution of the UN General Assembly in 1994 in order for the world community to remember the need to preserve the unique cultures of indigenous peoples.

In 2021, Ukraine adopted the Law of Ukraine  "On the Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine", which recognized three indigenous peoples: Crimean Tatars, Karaites and Krymchaks. The cultures of these three peoples were formed on the territory of Ukraine and they do not have their own state formation outside of our state.

The first invasion of Ukraine in 2014 created significant risks for the preservation of the unique cultures of the indigenous peoples of Ukraine, since they formed and lived compactly mainly in Crimea. A full-scale invasion in 2022 struck again, as Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia and a number of other territories that became centers of cultural activity for the indigenous peoples of Ukraine fell into a zone of temporary occupation by Russian occupants.

So, within the framework of the event, the speakers will inform about the history of the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, about the situation of the indigenous peoples of Ukraine in the conditions of a full-scale invasion, and also present visual and informational content prepared by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center for this day as part of the #LIBERATECRIMEA information campaign.

The broadcast of the event will also be available on the Facebook page of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center – https://www.facebook.com/CTRC2015
