RF strengthens systemic blocking of broadcasting of Ukrainian media in the occupied Crimea

December 23, 2020

The Russian Federation is strengthening systemic blocking of broadcasting of independent Ukrainian media in the occupied Crimea: out of 19 settlements in the north of the peninsula, Ukrainian stations are heard only in seven. This was reported by the Crimean Human Rights Group.

“The Crimean Human Rights Group conducted a new monitoring of the broadcasting of FM radio stations in the north of the peninsula in December 2020. Compared to the previous monitoring, which was carried out in September, the situation with the spread of the Ukrainian signal has worsened. In December, the signal of Ukrainian FM radio stations was recorded only in 7 out of 19 settlements. In September this year, Ukrainian broadcasting was available in 12 settlements from the same list”,- the message said.

It is noted that in 13 out of 19 settlements on some frequencies, simultaneous broadcasting of two stations – Ukrainian and Russian – was recorded. Such interference makes it impossible to listen to broadcasts on these frequencies.
