Putin signed a law to punish calls for alienating the territory of the Russian Federation

On Tuesday, December 8, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law “On Counteracting Extremist Activity” with new amendments, according to which calls for alienating the territory of the Russian Federation will be punished with criminal liability and fines. This was reported via the official portal of legal information.

If such calls were recorded for the first time, then a fine is imposed. In case of a repeated violation, criminal liability for up to four years will follow (according to Article 280.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia “Public calls for the implementation of actions aimed at violating the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation”).

Earlier, the Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, a member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Eskender Bariiev, stated that by such actions, Putin would secure the impossibility of returning Crimea to Ukraine.
