45 thousand people have already left Crimea – Kyslytsya at the UN

November 19, 2020

On Wednesday, November 18, Ukraine’s representative to the UN, Sergiy Kyslytsya, during the presentation of the draft resolution on Crimea, said that 45 thousand people had already left Crimea, and the occupying state was moving its own population to the peninsula contrary to the Geneva Conventions and Protocols. The press service of the department reported about this.

Kyslytsya noted that systemic repression, selective detention, harassment, extrajudicial executions and torture have become a daily reality in Crimea. About 100 Ukrainian citizens continue to be illegally detained on politically motivated charges.

“In November, the number of Crimean Tatars sentenced to imprisonment increased, and they received shocking sentences – from 12 to 17 years – for the peaceful observance of Islamic rituals. You know about the use of the Russian FSB “military tea Novichok.” Unfortunately, in Crimea they use simpler, but no less cruel forms of mass terror”,- he explained.

The representative of Ukraine to the UN stressed that on the peninsula, Russia continues to intimidate Crimean Tatar Muslims and almost completely destroyed the Orthodox Church of Ukraine on the occupied peninsula.

“All this is only part of the grim picture of what was once a hospitable Ukrainian peninsula. It is estimated that 45,000 people have already left Crimea, and the occupying state is moving its own population to Crimea, contrary to the Geneva Conventions and Protocols”,- Kyslytsya added.
