The European Court of Human Rights has communicated to the Russian authorities the case of the eviction of the Crimean diocese of the OCU from the church in Simferopol. The occupants must submit their objections to the Court by January 5, 2021. This was reported by lawyer Serhiii Zaiets via his Facebook page.
“Of the hundreds of Crimean cases today, there will be hardly more than a dozen, which the Court has begun to consider. It took more than 3.5 years of hard work to prepare this case, and this complaint itself was filed only a year ago. This is the fifth complaint out of six that were filed starting in 2017 and concern the violation of the rights of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine in Crimea. This complaint raises the most pressing issues that threaten the complete destruction of the community”,- the message says.
It is noted that the authorities of the Russian Federation must send their objections to the Court by January 5, 2021. Thereafter, the opportunity to comment on the case will be given to the Office of the Diocese as the applicant.
We remind that on August 29, 2019, the 21st Arbitration Court of Appeal in Sevastopol upheld the decision to terminate the lease agreement for the premises of the Cathedral of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) in Simferopol.
