The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said that the Russian Federation needs more and more water to implement the accelerated development of military facilities and enterprises of the military-industrial complex, which jeopardizes access to drinking water for the population of the peninsula. The press service of the department reported about this.

“Excessive exploitation of illegally seized industrial enterprises and natural resources in the occupied Crimea endangers access to drinking water for the population of the peninsula. In addition, the Russian occupation authorities are demanding more and more water to accelerate the development of military facilities and enterprises of the military-industrial complex, build up the military contingent. The situation is complicated by the active resettlement of its citizens by Russia to the occupied Crimea in order to replace the demographic composition of the population of the peninsula. Such actions of the occupying state are a war crime and require an appropriate response from the international community”,- the message said.

The ministry stressed that the Russian Federation, as an occupying state, is obliged to ensure the socio-economic rights and needs of the population in the territories under its control, including for basic sanitation and safe water.
