On Tuesday, September 15, during the 45th session of the UN Human Rights Council, representatives of 41 member countries of the organization made a joint statement on the situation in the occupied Crimea. The Russian Federation was called on to comply with its obligations in accordance with international humanitarian law, as well as to ensure unhindered access to the territory of the peninsula for international and regional human rights monitoring mechanisms. This was reported by Emine Dzheppar via her Facebook page.
Dzheppar noted that in Geneva, the international community reaffirmed its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, condemned Russia's violation of human rights and international humanitarian law in the occupied peninsula.
“In the Joint Statement on Crimea by 41 UN member states, delivered during the 45th session of the UN Human Rights Council, Russia, as an occupying state, was called upon to comply with its obligations in accordance with international humanitarian law, to unswervingly comply with UN General Assembly resolutions on the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the situation with human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, an order of the International Court of Justice to abolish the ban of Mejlis as a representative body of the Crimean Tatar people, as well as to provide full and unhindered access to the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea for international and regional human rights monitoring mechanisms”,- the message said.
