The so-called Head of the Occupied Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, said that by blocking the North Crimean canal, Kyiv had committed a crime. In addition, in his opinion, the Russian Federation should initiate criminal proceedings against the organizers of the “water blockade”. He reported this via his Facebook page.
“By blocking the North Crimean Canal, through which more than two million inhabitants of the peninsula received over 80 percent of fresh water, Kyiv committed a crime. This can be regarded as an ecocide, as state terrorism and an attempt to create a large-scale humanitarian catastrophe in the region. And certainly, as a gross violation of fundamental human rights. I believe that in Russia criminal cases should be instituted against the organizers of the water blockade. And then the matter will reach the international tribunal,”- the message says.
We remind that earlier the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia claims that Kyiv violated its human rights obligations, enshrined in international documents on water for Crimea. This is emphasized in the statement of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Mariya Zakharova, who called the cessation of the supply of Dnieper water to the peninsula a “water blockade”.
