The situation with water will even worsen in autumn – Bariiev

August 22, 2020

The Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, a member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Eskender Bariiev, believes that in September – early October, when it will be necessary to prepare for the heating season, the situation with water in the occupied Crimea will worsen. He stated this in a commentary for the Crimea.Realities medi agency.

“I said six months ago that it will be in August that serious problems will begin. It will be even more difficult in September – early October, when it will be necessary to prepare for the heating season. This requires water, and it will not be possible to fill all the necessary infrastructure”,- Bariev said.

According to him, the restoration of the water balance of the peninsula after the last six years, according to experts' estimates, may take up to half a century.

“Moreover, I want to remind you that there is enough water of our own to provide the population that was in Crimea before the occupation. However, the occupier is developing a military-industrial complex on the peninsula, conducting exercises – and this requires additional water resources. Even realizing that there is very little water, Russians still lure their tourists to Crimea, and they also drink, wash in the shower, etc. In such a situation, no matter how the invaders threw the water conduits from the reservoir to the reservoir, they are already shallow below the dead zone. The dams are already beginning to deteriorate, and even if there are heavy rains in Crimea now, water retention will be a separate problem. As for desalination, it is very expensive, plus Russia is not ready for this technologically. So for Russians, water in Crimea is a big problem”,- the Head of the CTRC stressed.
