The defendant in the so-called Yalta Hizb ut-Tahrir Muslim Aliev, who is being held in a pre-trial detention center of the Russian Federation, was diagnosed with a coronavirus. The political prisoner was not provided with emergency medical care, was wrapped in tape and taken to an unknown direction. This was announced via her Facebook page by the Ombudswoman of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova.
“Neglecting the provision of the minimum standard rules for the treatment of prisoners, approved by the UN Economic and Social Council, the recommendations of the World Health Organization and the UN Subcommittee on the Prevention of Torture, our compatriot was not provided with emergency medical care. He was wrapped in tape and taken to an unknown destination”,- the message said.
His cellmate Refat Alimov was isolated and placed in a separate cell. Other defendants in the so-called Yalta Hizb ut-Tahrir case Vadym Siruk, Enver Bekirov, Emir-Huseyn Kuku and Arsen Dzhepparov, who are at risk of contracting coronavirus, are also in the same jail.
In addition, the management of the pre-trial detention centers continues to ignore the statements of Enver Omerov, Arsen Dzhepparov, Alim Sufyanov about providing them with proper medical care.
“I demand from the Human Rights Ombudsman in the Russian Federation Tatyana Moskalkova an appropriate response and an immediate end to the inhuman treatment of illegally detained Ukrainian political prisoners! Inform the whereabouts of Muslim Aliev, ensure the right to receive proper medical care for all Ukrainian citizens”,- she added.
We remind that Emir-Huseyn Kuku, Vadym Siruk, Muslim Aliev, Enver Bekirov, Arsen Dzhepparov and Refat Alimov are accused of participation in the organization Hizb ut-Tahrir, which is banned in the Russian Federation. They are charged with Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“organization of the activities of a terrorist organization and participation in it”). Later they began to impute Article 278 of the Criminal Code ("Forced seizure of power or forcible retention of power"). On October 11, during a court session in the Southern District Military Court of Rostov-on-Don, the prosecutor requested 13 to 20 years in prison for the so-called Yalta Hizb ut-Tahrir case defendants. On November 12, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don announced the sentence. Muslim Aliev and Enver Bekirov were sentenced to 19 and 18 years in a maximum security penal colony, Emir-Huseyn Kuku and Vadym Siruk – to 12 years, Refat Alimov – to 8 years, Arsen Dzhepparov – to 7 years.
