Political prisoner Ruslan Suleymanov was pressured in jail

July 30, 2020

On Saturday, July 25, a large number of law enforcement officers came to the defendant in the so-called second Hizb ut-Tahrir case in Simferopol, Ruslan Suleymanov, who demanded to know where his son was. This was reported by the Crimean Solidarity public association.

Lawyer Lilia Hemedzi visited Ruslan Suleymanov in the pre-trial detention center on the day of the funeral of his 3-year-old son Musa on July 27.

“He told me that on Saturday (July 25) a large number of law enforcement officers came to him. All of them did not introduce themselves to him, they were in civilian clothes, exerted psychological pressure on him, demanded to say where his son was.  At that moment it was still unknown what happened to the child, so they presumed, that the abduction was initiated by Ruslan in order to exert a certain influence on the law enforcement agencies, they tried to work out how this version was connected with me, they asked: “Why did a lawyer come to you on Thursday? What did you talk to her about?”,- said Lilia Hemedzhi.

The lawyer also noted that a psychologist worked with the political prisoner in the pre-trial detention center, who, instead of providing assistance, was interested in the circumstances of his son's death and what version of the incident Ruslan Suleymanov had.

In addition, Lilia Hemedzhi said that on the day of the search for Musa Suleymanov, she was being followed. When she was driving one activist home, she noticed three cars that followed them to the city and back home.

We remind, that on July 24, 2020, in the village of Stroganovka, Simferopol region of the occupied Crimea, three-year-old Crimean Tatar Musa Suleymanov disappeared. The child played near the house with his elder sister and was left unattended for 10-15 minutes, because his mother-in-law called his mother. On July 26, 2020, after a day and a half of active searches, the boy's body was found in a drain pit  near the house.
