The first month after being transported from the occupied Crimea to the pre-trial detention center of the city of Rostov-on-Don, the defendant in the so-called Hizb ut-Tahrir case Eldar Kantimirov spent a month in a special block. His wife Elvina Kantimirova informed the Crimean Tatar Resource Center about this, adding that at that time there was no information about him at all.
“The first month in the Rostov pre-trial detention center, my husband was in a special block, in a solitary confinement cell, and there was no information about him at all (from May 20 to June 20 approximately). Now he is in a common cell, the conditions are tolerable, how normal can conditions be in a pre-trial detention center. The consul of Ukraine visits him, we are very grateful for that, and from him we get at least some information. It was especially valuable when my husband was in a special block and we could not find a place for ourselves because of the worries”,-she said.
According to his wife, Eldar Kantimirov had a hard time enduring the transferring, as he has a fear of confined spaces, and he was taken in a “glass”.
“He sent me the details by letter, because he knew that both I and his mother were very worried, knowing about his problem”,- Elvina added.
We remind that on June 10 and 11, the so-called Kyiv District Court of Simferopol chose a measure of restraint in the form of detention until August 5, for the Crimean Tatars detained after searches – Riza Omerov, Enver Omerov, Ayder Dzhepparov, Eskender Suleymanov, Ruslan Nagaev, Eldar Kantimirov and Lenur Khalilov. Subsequently, their detention was extended several times. On February 3, the so-called Kyiv District Court of Simferopol once again extended their arrest term until May 5, 2020.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center calls on the international community, international human rights organizations to increase pressure on the Russian Federation and the occupying authorities of Crimea, in order to end political persecution and annul previous court decisions.
