The top priority for Crimea is to solve the problem with water supply – Head of RAS

July 28, 2020

On Monday, July 27, the second meeting of the Scientific and Technological Council was held in the occupied Crimea, during which scientists presented projects to improve the situation with water supply to the occupied peninsula. President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Aleksandr Sergeev said that the top priority for Crimea is to solve the problem with water supply, which is impossible without the involvement of science. This was reported by the press service of the Vernadsky Crimean Federal University.

“The first priority is water. There are many proposals where to find this water and how to properly manage it. For example, there is groundwater, but first it needs to be studied. All processes associated with water extraction must be supported by science, and for this it is necessary to carry out research”,- said the head of the Russian Academy of Sciences Aleksandr Sergeev.

During the meeting, the Crimean Federal University proposed to use small sources of traditional water supply (springs, wells, karst springs).

“Crimea has forgotten how to use its own natural resources since the North Crimean Canal was built. It is necessary to return to natural sources, conduct scientific research and analyze how these sources can be used to improve the situation with water on the peninsula”,- said the head of the CFU Andrei Falafeev.
