The Verkhovna Rada Human Rights Commissioner Liudmyla Denysova emphasized that forcing Ukrainian political prisoners to vote on amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation is another type of repressive policy of the Russian Federation in regard to citizens of Ukraine. She reported this via her Facebook page.

“I received information that the leadership of some institutions of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service system forces Ukrainian political prisoners to vote in an all-Russian referendum because they consider them to be Russian citizens. Those who refused to tick the ballot are under psychological pressure”,- the statement said.

Denisova believes coercion to citizenship is another type of repressive policy of the Russian Federation towards citizens of Ukraine who find themselves under occupation.

“I urge representatives of international human rights organizations to use all available means of influence to force the aggressor country to comply with international humanitarian law and stop the repression of Ukrainian citizens who became victims of the occupation!”,- she added.
