Political prisoner Uzeir Abdullaev diagnosed with a tendon hernia because of being constantly handcuffed

June 17, 2020

Political prisoner Uzeir Abdullaev, sentenced to 12.5 years in a maximum security colony, was diagnosed with a tendon hernia, which was formed as a result of an injury from handcuffs, in a colony in Bashkortostan. He announced this to his wife during an official call from the colony, reports Crimean Solidarity public association.

“Today Uzeir made the third official call during his time in the colony. He called me using the Zonatelecom connection. He informed me that he and Emil Dzhemadenov were called to the doctor and taken tests. They didn’t explain why. Uzeir was examined by the doctor, as he had previously complained for a swelling on the left wrist. The doctor diagnosed a hernia of a tendon, which was formed as a result of an injury from handcuffs. He offered him a surgery”,- said the wife of political prisoner Fera Abdullaeva.

According to her, Uzeir has already been expelled twice in a punishment cell. The last time he served his sentence was from May 15 to 20.

“When he asked why he was being placed in a punishment cell, the colony openly replied that this was an order from higher authorities. Since they did not give up their beliefs and pleaded not guilty, they supposedly expected some kind of written “repentance”and confession guilt”,- Fera added.

We remind that on October 12, 2016, Russian security forces in the village of Strohonivka of Simferopol region arrested five representatives of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people – Uzeir Abdullaev, Teymur Abdullaev, Rustem Ismailov, Emil Dzhemadenov and Ayder Saledinov as a result of mass searches. They were accused of participating in the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization banned in the Russian Federation and charged with article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“organizing the activities of a terrorist organization and participating in it”).

On June 18, 2019, the North Caucasian District Military Court of the Russian Federation sentenced the so-called Simferopol Hizb ut-Tahrir case defendants: Teymur Abdullaev to 17 years in a maximum security penal colony with a probation term of 1 year and 6 months, Rustem Ismailov – to 14 years, Uzeir Abdullaev – to 13 years, Ayder Saledinov and Emil Dzhemadenov – to 12 years.

On December 24, 2019, the Supreme Court in Moscow reduced the terms of imprisonment of the so-called Simferopol Hizb ut-Tahrir case defendants by 6 months.
