On Monday, June 15, the Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, a member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariiev and the manager of the CTRC Liudmyla Korotkykh took part in a meeting (via video conference) of the thematic group on the development of the draft Decree of the President of Ukraine “On Amending the Decree of the President of Ukraine of August 25, 2015 # 501/2015 “On approval of the National Strategy for Human Rights”. Representatives of the CTRC made a number of proposals in in the sphere of ensuring the rights of indigenous peoples and national minorities.
During the discussion, representatives of the organization submitted their proposals for changing the text of the Strategy, among which – an establishment of a legislative settlement of mechanisms for the implementation of the rights of indigenous peoples and national minorities (adoption of the Law of Ukraine “On Indigenous Peoples”, amending other legislative acts) and development of the National action plan for the preservation and implementation of the rights of indigenous peoples of Ukraine in accordance with the UN System-wide action plan (SWAP) on the rights of indigenous peoples and other international standards.
The head of the board of the CTRC Eskender Bariiev expressed hope that these proposals will form the basis of the strategic document, and later the Action Plan itself.
