The EU recalled its position regarding the non-recognition of the occupation of Crimea

May 29, 2020

Josep Borrel, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said that the EU would never recognize the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation and fully supported the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. This was reported via the website of the department.

“I want to recall Ukraine, where the illegal annexation by Russia of the Crimean peninsula and its unfulfilled obligations under Minsk agreements led to a significant violation – I am sorry to talk about this – of the relations between the European Union and Russia”,- the statement said.

The department emphasized that support for state sovereignty and territorial integrity will remain the main element of relations between the European Union and its eastern partners. The principles enshrined in Helsinki cannot be forgotten during the development of the European continent in the spirit of cooperation, lasting security and cohesion.
